K League 1 to host the final regular league match simultaneously with 'To win or survive'

Hana Bank's K-League 1 2024 is set to play its final regular league match. The 12 teams are committed to garnering as many points as possible before the final round to achieve their respective goals.

The 33rd round of the K League 1 will be held simultaneously at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at six stadiums. Ulsan HD-Kim Cheon-moo, Pohang Steelers-Suwon FC, Jeju United-Daejeon Hana Citizen, Daegu FC-Jeonbuk Hyundai, Incheon United-Kangwon FC and Gwangju FC-FC Seoul will clash.스포츠토토

After 33 regular league matches, the teams will be divided into two groups depending on their performance and the final round will be held. The 1st to 6th places will be in Final A, and the 7th to 12th places will be in Final B.

There is one more regular league game left, but Final A and B have already been confirmed. Final A will be contested by Ulsan, Gimcheon, Gangwon, Pohang, Seoul, and Suwon FC. In Final B, Gwangju, Jeju, Jeonbuk, Daegu, Daejeon, and Incheon will face off.

Final A, which will have the winner, has narrowed down to a two-way race between Ulsan and Gimcheon. Currently, defending champion Ulsan (58 points), is ranking first, while Gimcheon (56 points) is closely trailing by two points. Coincidentally, the two teams will have a showdown in the 33rd round.

If Ulsan wins, it will widen its point gap with Gimcheon to five points, approaching its third consecutive victory. If Gimcheon wins, it can regain the lead and enter the final round. Ulsan leads the team with one win and one draw in its matches this season. Ulsan's last loss in the face-off match and Gimcheon's recent victory was in March 2018, which is about six years and seven months ago.

If Final A engages in a fierce battle to win the title, Final B is a struggle for survival that cannot be compromised. The 10th-ranked Daegu and the 11th-ranked Daejeon (35 points or more), which are capable of surviving on their own, are all within three points of each other. The outcome of a match could change the situation.

On top of that, the gap between 12th-ranked Incheon (32 points), which will be directly demoted to the K League 2, and 10th-ranked Daegu is also three points shorter. Jeju Island cannot afford to worry about ranking eighth, and Incheon City, which is ranking 12th, also has ample chance to rebound. As the team only directly competes with rival teams in the final round, it is important to gain the upper hand as much as possible.

From the final regular league match, a six-point showdown will take place. First, Jeju, ranked eighth, and Daejeon, ranked 11th, will meet. Jeju wants to widen its gap with the relegation zone, and Daejeon dreams of surviving on its own. Jeju won all two face-to-face matches this season.

The 10th-ranked Daegu team and the 9th-ranked Jeonbuk team will also have a showdown on the one-tree bridge. Daegu also aims to survive on its own, not on the elevation play-off. Jeonbuk wants to keep the Maginot line where it survives on its own. In matches against opponents this season, Daegu leads the team with one win and one draw.
